The Inverness Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe while building trust and collaboration with residents. As part of this commitment, we offer two, free specialized watch programs designed to provide added peace of mind.
Vacation Watch
Officers will monitor your home while you're away - helping deter potential trespassers, responding quickly to suspicious activity, and ensuring your property stays secure so you can relax and enjoy your time away.
Before leaving on your trip, the Inverness Police Department suggests that you:
- Have your mail forwarded to you, held at the post office, or arrange to have it picked up daily.
- Never leave mail in a single central location, such as the kitchen table or countertop, where it can be seen and taken as an obvious sign that you are gone.
- Cancel your newspaper delivery.
- Avoid announcing that you will be away from home on social media.
- Leave a phone number where you can be reached with one or more neighbors so you can be notified of an emergency.
- Give your home that “lived in” look by using timers for your lights and a radio. Vary the times they switch on and off.
For-Sale Watch
Officers will monitor homes listed for-sale, helping prevent trespassing and unauthorized access. This service is especially valuable for vacant properties, offering reassurance for homeowners and neighbors alike.
Now More Efficient & Accessible!
To improve service, the Inverness Police Department has implemented a web-based tracking system for its House Watch programs. Key upgrades include:
- Submit online: Requests can now be submitted online - eliminating paperwork and ensuring timely updates. Visit https://vw.inverness-il.gov to submit your request.
- Real Time Patrols: Officers can now access House Watch on patrol. The system will display property details as they arrive at a registered location - real time updates mean more personalized checks, giving you peace of mind while you're away.
- Expanded Coverage: Our new streamlined process enables officers from every shift to participate - this means your home may be checked up to three times per day!
Through these programs we aim to strengthen our partnership with the community and deliver exceptional service.
